I was born in South Carolina and trained for a nursing career. I spent the next 16 years as an Air Force wife and mother, moving frequently in the USA with our three children. In the cracks I squeezed in as many art classes as I could --- pottery, oil painting, weaving and whatever else was available in my locale. In 1980 we moved to Northern California , and I knew immediately that this was the place for the rest of my life. I remarried in 1984.

Sewing clothes had always been a part of my life, and discovering art quilts in 1996 set me on my current course. I work at home. I have a small studio in our house and a basement for dyeing and printing fabrics. I'm looking forward to a larger studio which my retired husband is building in our backyard barn.

Artist Statement

Starting from early childhood, I can't remember a time when I did not want to create art. I wedged art classes into my schedule whenever I could. But often my creativity was directed to the urgencies of moving frequently, raising children, making a home out of random military quarters, finding new dentists, and all the other necessary distractions in life that can push art into the background. Mid-life reentry into a single status and then remarriage presented new time constraints but could not quash the inner art bug that kept inspiring my spirit. When retirement produced available time, fabric art seemed very natural for me. The discovery of contemporary art quilts told me "This is it!" - a quest to pursue and enjoy for the rest of my life.

I have learned to piece, free-motion cut, dye, print, create, destroy, and create again and again. Each pursuit feeds me and helps me understand --- finishing each quilt starts the process for the next one.

Nancy Crow, David Walker , Jane Dunnewold, Ned Wert - all have inspired me, pushed me, and encouraged me. I'm grateful for each opportunity I have had to work with them and hope for many more.
